Fuel Economy & Drive Range

The 2017 Toyota Prius Prime is the first plug-in hybrid version of the Prius to hit the market. Unlike other hybrid models, a plug-in hybrid runs on electric power alone, engaging the traditional engine only when electric range has run out. The Prius Prime includes a 1.8L four-cylinder engine, an electric motor system, and an Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission.

These combine to deliver best-in-class overall efficiency, including Toyota’s projected class-leading 124 MPGe, projected class-leading 54 mpg combined city/highway with the gasoline engine engaged, an EV Mode driving range of 25 miles, and projected class-leading total driving range of 640 miles. On top of that, the EV system will complete a full charge in around 2.1 hours with a 240-volt outlet or 5.5 hours with a 120-volt outlet.
