2017 Toyota Corolla Fuel Economy

Every version of the 2017 Toyota Corolla comes powered by a 1.8L four-cylinder engine, many of which also have a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The base L trim, the LE trim, and the XLE trim are equipped with a CVT engine that achieves up to an EPA-estimated 36 mpg highway and 28 mpg city, and makes a capable 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. The XSE and 50th Anniversary Special Edition trims are equipped with a CVT engine that achieves a slightly lesser 35 mpg highway and 28 mpg city, but has the same power capabilities.

The SE is the only trim that offers two different engine options – this makes for a slightly  varied fuel economy. It still offers a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine; however, this engine is offered in 6-speed manual and CVT options. The 6-speed manual version can reach an EPA-estimated 35 mpg highway and 27 mpg city, which the CVT version can reach 35 mpg highway and 28 mpg city. The SE produces 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque with either engine option. These fuel economy numbers are very similar to the previously mentioned trims, but you do get to choose your engine when you go with the SE.

It should come as no surprise that the 2017 Toyota Corolla LE Eco trim focuses on improving fuel economy. It does so through special tuning to the engine and transmission, an exterior design focused on improving aerodynamics, a rear spoiler, and low-resistance tires. The result is not only the most fuel-efficient Corolla in the mix at up to an EPA-estimated 40 mpg highway and 30 mpg city, but also a boost in performance to 140 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque.
