MPG and Starting Price
Efficiency-focused drivers often end up choosing between Yaris or Prius, and it’s easy to see why.
- Yaris Efficiency: Makes up to 30 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.*
- Prius Efficiency: Makes up to 58 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway.**
The Toyota Prius clearly comes out ahead for efficiency, but it also starts at $23,475*** to the Toyota Yaris’ $15,635.*** Consider how much you’ll actually be driving to decide if the boost to fuel efficiency is worth the added cost.
Space and Size
The Toyota Prius is exceptionally spacious, offering up to 24.6 cubic feet in its cargo area and an interior volume of 93.1 cubic feet. That puts it ahead of the Toyota Yaris’ 15.3 cubic feet of cargo space and 84.4 cubic feet of interior volume.
However, the Toyota Yaris is a smaller vehicle with a turning circle of just 31.5 feet compared to 33.5 feet in the Prius. If you’re an urban-based driver more likely to be in the center of Aurora than commuting between Oak Brook and Joliet, the Toyota Yaris might just make better sense.
Safety
If you’re looking for high-end safety features, both the Toyota Yaris and the Toyota Prius will stand out ahead of the competition, but the Prius does go a little further by offering the following as standard:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
- Automatic High Beams (AHB)
- Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
The Toyota Yaris only includes a Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Automatic High Beams (AHB) as standard.
