When does Spring Training start?

Even though football season is over for the Bears and there will be plenty of time in the next six months to watch what develops, sports fan in the Chicago area still have spring training to anticipate. Whether you’re a fan of the Cubs on the Northside, or the Southside White Sox, there are some important dates to circle on the calendar. Reporting for Spring Training

BaseballFor the Cubs:
The World Series’ runner ups Chicago Cubs will be reporting to Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona. These are the dates that will be important to fans:

  • Feb. 19: Pitchers and catchers report
  • Feb. 20: First work out for pitchers and catchers
  • Feb. 23: Full squad reports to camp
  • Feb. 24: First full squad workout
  • Mar. 3: First Spring Training game at Brewers, 2:05 p.m.

For the White Sox:
The White Sox will be making their Spring Training home at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. Supports will want to remember these dates:

  • Feb. 19: First work out for pitchers and catchers
  • Feb. 23: First full squad workout
  • Mar. 3: First Spring Training game at Dodgers, 2:05 p.m.

When is Opening Day?

BaseballThe Chicago Cubs will open up their 2016 season on the road with a game against the Angels on April 4. Fans will be able to see the team at the “Friendly Confines” of Wrigley Field on April 11 in a game against division rival, the Cincinnati Reds.

On the other side of town, the Chicago White Sox will open their season on the road as well, with a night game at the Oakland Athletics on April 4. U.S. Cellular Field will see its first action of the year on April 8 against Cleveland.

  • July 11: Homerun Derby
  • July 12: All-Star Game
